Already the leader in the market for Digital Signal Processors (DSP), Texas Instruments said it has developed new software to dramatically cut the time needed to design DSP ICs. The ExpressDSP
software allows TI customers to combine pre-written chunks of computer
code (modules) to design customized DSP chips for particular functions
such as cell phones.
ExpressDSP includes standards that allow different devices to use the same library of modules and allows for the faster testing of new programs. "ExpressDSP is expected to reduce development time by more than 50 per cent, speeding products to market and increasing the innovation rate of new applications," said Leon Adams, manager of worldwide DSP strategic marketing at TI.
"It allows you more time to focus on differentiating (a product) for competitive advantage because you don't have to spend as much time reinventing the wheel," Adams said, adding that TI expects up to 10 times as many new applications to be developed over the next five years as would have been the case without ExpressDSP.
