BANGALORE: Texas Instruments is increasing its outsourcing of IC design and embedded software development from India, however the percentage of work outsourced by the company was not disclosed. "The cost of outsourcing is almost same to the in-house development cost in India. So it is not the cost factor for the increase in outsourcing of our work, but the possession of skill sets by our partner companies, which makes us outsource the work," said Texas Instruments India, Managing Director, Biswadip Mitra.

Currently Texas Instruments employs over 1000 engineers in India, that makes it one of the largest research and development centers, outside its headquarters in Dallas, US. Additionally the company is empowered by 400 engineers working in about 30 partner companies executing Texas Instruments assignments. The company has also recently opened off-campus development centers and two OMAP technology centers at Wipro and Sasken.

"India is emerging as a silicon design powerhouse. That is why we are confident in our decision to build R&D expertise here. Silicon engineers here are building on the country’s strength in embedded software and the combination of silicon and software makes a very potent combination that India can leverage," said the visiting Chairman, CEO and President of Texas Instruments Inc., Tom J.Engibous.

Texas Instruments India is engaged in developing system-on-a-chip silicon design as well as analog integrated circuits. Applications include wireless, broadband, imaging and audio. It has more than 200 patents to its credit, solely derived from the Indian center.

On the future of the electronics market, Engibous, said, "Real-time signal processing is essential for the emerging world of portable and connected digital devices. The electronics marketplace will have two main growth drivers for atleast the next decade, the mobile Internet and broadband to and through the home. In both areas, I believe India will be a major global contributor for the development of silicon and embedded software that go in to these types of end equipments."
