BANGALORE: The number of professionals entering the BPO arena in India is phenomenal. The ramp up plans of companies in the space also looks very demanding. To meet the demand with quality people, Karnataka is introducing a unique test to assess the skills of prospective candidates for the BPO sector.
The state government is launching a BPO Skill Assessment Tes (BSAT) in association with the state’s Board for IT Education Standard (BITES). Announcing this during Nasscom’s ITES-BPO Strategy Summit the state government IT Secretary, Vivek Kulkarni, said, "To ensure the quality of the people for the BPO sector, this test will help ascertain the assessment of the candidate for the company and help recruitment process better."
The test will evaluate the candidate’s communication skills, pronunciation and command over the language among other needed qualities for the BPO sector.
Putting thrust on the need to scale up to meet the demand of the sector, IT minister of the state, DB Inamdar, commented, "We need to put in a lot of hard work. The projections of Nasscom in would need to spruce up the manpower."
The state has engaged in efforts to induce BPO related skills like communication, accent, language, domain knowledge apart from other things at the college education level. The state also introduced an ITES policy recently. With the Nasscom holding its Strategy Summit in the city, the minister promised to make amendments to the policy from the recommendations evolved from the two day summit.
