Telenor hasn't done anything wrong: Norway minister

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Even as the new entrants in the India's telecom sector are spending sleepless nights after the apex court scrapped 122 licenses awarded in 2008, Norway's telecom operator Telenor has invested over Rs.14,000 crore in the country and wants to roll out services in various circles

Government administration and church affairs minister of Norway Rigmor Aasrud met telecom minister Kapil Sibal in New Delhi.

"We had fruitful and constructive discussions with telecom minister Sibal. We discussed  various issues, besides licence cancellation," Asrud said.

She also said that Telenor hasn’t done anything wrong and it expanded its footprints in India only after the licences were given.

“We had a constructive meeting. The minister wants their interests to be safeguarded. We informed them of all possible help,” told Sibal.

In India, Telenor and Unitech have forged a joint venture — Uninor in which Norwegian firm have 67 per cent stake.

Uninor earlier said that it would file a review petition in the Supreme Court, and wanted to protect its investments.
