Telemedicine link set up in Bhopal

BHOPAL: The Central Government's decision to introduce at least 100 telemedicine facilities in the country by 2005. Once such telemedicine link in Bhopal was inaugurated by Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, President of India. This telemedicine project links Bhopal Memorial Hospital & Research Center, Outreach Health Center at Tima Jamalpur and CARE Hospital in 0Hyderabad (A Super Specialty Hospital).



Karishma Software Ltd, a Hyderabad based Software Solutions Company, has developed the software for this telemedicine facility, aptly named 'Sanjeeva'. The connectivity was provided by BSNL.



This facility already links Mahabubnagar District Hospital with CARE Hospital, Hyderabad, and also some district hospitals in the state of Orissa. These links have been in operation for the past one year, rendering service to the rural poor.



The President spoke to the doctors both at CARE Hospital, Hyderabad and Tima Jamalpur in Bhopal through the telemedicine facility. He also interacted with other patients and asked the attending doctors to consult the specialists at Hyderabad and Bhopal for their expert comments on-line.
