NEW DELHI, August 30: The Telecom
Commission has decided to constitute a 'Telecom Group on Information
Technology (IT) Enabled Services'. A sequel to the National Telecom
Policy-99 (NTP-99), the group will give recommendations on the
registration policy for Other Service Providers (OSPs). It will look into
the needs of these service providers to ensure coordination and
strengthening of the telecom infrastructure and work out operational
details for supporting such services. The group will also give
recommendations covering the overall aspects of IT based services as well
as specific service-based recommendations on identifying the program for
implementation in a phased manner besides steps for encouraging various
services.
The Group can give its recommendations on areas such as
Call Centers, Tele-medicine, Tele-education, Tele-working, Electronic
Governance Medical Transcription, Electronic based services in banking,
insurance and national and international air services including hotel
reservations, tours and travels.
The Group will be headed by Senior Deputy Director
General Dr D.P.S. Seth of the Telecom Commission Head Quarters and ten
other members drawn from government departments and industry. The Group is
expected to submit its report within three months after nomination of the
representatives and its first regular meeting.
