NEW DELHI, INDIA: An investigation into the sale of telecom licences at low prices will look into "shortcomings and lapses" in the 2G licensing process, the federal telecoms ministry said in a statement on Monday.

The investigation, by a former Supreme Court judge to examine India's allocation of telecoms licences and spectrum between 2001 and 2009, will suggest remedial measures to avoid future lapses, it said.

India last week widened a probe into the country's biggest corruption case —  which revolves around the sale of telecoms licences at low prices —  to include decisions made during the main opposition party's rule.
