Tektronix has unveiled the MTG100 and MTG300
MPEG-2 Generators for circuit design evaluation and conformance testing of
compressed digital video products. These new instruments provide storage
and playback of MPEG-2 transport streams compliant with the ATSC, DVB and
ARIB standards. The MTG Series also features complacent seamless transport
streams for long term playout.
According to the company, the worldwide transition from analog to
digital television demands the design
and manufacture of a complete range of new professional and consumer
products. These include transmission equipments, consumer set-top boxes,
mulitplexers and professional integrated receiver decoders (IRDs).
Manufacturers need a source of compressed digital signals to design and
test such products to ensure compliance with MPEG-2, the standard selected
for digital television worldwide. Other applications requiring a source of
test signals include the evaluation and commissioning of MPEG-2
transmission chains and maintenance of compression systems.
The MTG Series with a maximum data rate of 64 Mbps, are designed to
accommodate transport streams up to the 4:2:2 profile @ main level, making
them suitable for testing both professional distribution equipment and
final transmission-to-home gear. Eighteen GBs of internal storage provide
ample capacity for multiple short clips or one long clip, which can be
played in a seamless loop, this long
term, seamless playout capability prevents buffer and continuity problems.
"Tektronix provides the new MPEG generators which comprises the
basic functionality of the MTG Series, combined with the customization
features of the MTG300, making them ideally suited for use in research,
design and manufacturing applications," said Tektronix India
Corporate Manager Marketing Mahendran. "The MTG Series enhances
Tektronix' full line of products for
testing compressed digital video signals," he added.
