Bangalore: Tektronix has announced the deployment of the multi-channel program of service monitoring system for DIRECTV Inc., a unit of Hughes Electronics Corporation.

The system is designed for picture quality on DIRECTV's more than 210-channel service. The monitoring system is based on the new Tektronix PQM300 Program Quality of Service (QoS) Monitor to monitor and adjust the bit rate of each channel to match the needs of its program material. "The advent of digital television (DTV) and compressed signals requires new methods to evaluate program quality," said Tektronix India Limited Corporate Manager Marketing Mahendran.

Tektronix' PQM300 Program Quality of Service Monitor is an in-service, real-time monitoring instrument designed to test program quality in multi-channel broadcast environments. Its detection of MPEG-related picture defects and uncorrelated Gaussian noise provides the approach for allocating bandwidth. The PQM300 is an extension of PQA200 Picture Quality Analysis System that incorporates Sarnoff Corporation's Human Vision model based on the JND Metrix algorithm.
