Technopark GTech adopts a policy on HIV/AIDS

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, INDIA: In an effort aimed at inculcating awareness on HIV/AIDS at the deepest level among the companies based in Trivandrum Technopark and their employees to prevent the occurrence of the disease, the Group of Technopark Companies, the strategic grouping of IT companies in Technopark has adopted a corporate policy on HIV/AIDS.



Binu Sankar, CEO, GTech, said the policy mandates GTech to partner with organizations like Kerala State AIDS Control Society to raise awareness programme in all the Information Technology Parks in the state to eliminate the misconception of the social stigma and discrimination against those infected with HIV/AIDS.

The policy was adopted during the second consultative meeting between the Kerala State AIDS Control society and Group of Technopark companies organized in Technopark.

Leading a discussion on the need for a policy on HIV/AIDS, Satish Babu, secretary, GTech, noted that fighting the stigma associated with the HIV/AIDS and its prevention is a collective responsibility of the IT Industry in the state and hence GTech decided to work with the State Government in creating awareness about HIV/AIDS. Syed Ibrahim, managing director, Palnar Transmedia, spoke on the incidences in the other parts of the world where economic growth was de-railed because of the prevalence of HIV/AIDS.

The policy also stresses on the need to educate employees of companies on Safe blood donation. The others who took part in the discussion include Sudheer K B , Team Lead KSACS, Rita Cross, Joint Director, KSACS, Dr. Prasanna Kumar , KSACS and Binu Sankar, CEO, GTech. S Rama Rao, President, GTech said GTech would pursue more of such initiatives and would play a proactive role as a catalyst in addressing the Social and Economic Development challenges in the state.

GTech is the first Industry organization in Kerala to adopt a corporate policy on HIV/AIDS to help build a positive and supportive attitudes towards those infected and to promote the health and safety amongst the IT companies in the state.
