Healthcare is a very regulated industry because it touches humans, you and me. We see a lot of exciting work happening in this space.

CiOL spoke to Rohit Madhok, Vice President – Engineering, GlobalLogic, to understand the industry and technology that empowers it.

A connected device within your body

MedTech is almost end-to-end, it’s very simple from a human body perspective. The solutions are directly sitting on you and my body. So these are body implants, these are class three devices.

These class three devices are embedded in our body. For example, if I or you have a heart or sugar problem, the device enables us to track the real-time data.

For example, if a person is diabetic, and at a stage where he needs a body implant because he/she is at a severity level, where his blood sugar needs to be monitored 24/7.

A small chip is implanted within his/her body. It is a patch that sits on his body, which is removable and has a certain shelf life, or it's a body implant, which is non-intrusive in terms of clogging your arteries and blood on veins. It sits inside your body.

It's using nanotechnology, it's a small chip that sits inside your body, this body implant is connected to a small mobility solution.

Now my doctor or nurse who's assigned to the patient is always having a real-time dashboard. In real-time, the patient is connected with doctor, nurse and family members, and has real-time inputs.

In case of something abnormal which needs administration, the solution can inform to have a particular medicine right away.

A patient care, a hospital solution, is a very unique solution that helps doctors to focus on only essential info while operating a patient.

For example, Google Glass, almost everyone has seen the usage of it. The healthcare industry can utilise the gadget for a different purpose. When a doctor is operating, all the time they have to look at instruments and monitors all around them, measuring certain parameters including BP, heart rate and some other parameters.

When a doctor is in a very, very critical surgery where every split second makes a difference, the doctor actually turning and looking at monitors at that time the doctor has to actually be looking at the body and doing the incision or doing whatever he/she is supposed to do.

A Google Glass equivalent solution where all the vital parameters, which are on the entire panel, comes on the doctors’ glass. Now just imagine how much it has transformed patient care and operations.

Technology has helped us to change the world including healthcare, these tech innovations are surely going to help humans to improvise MedTech.
