Brihanmumbai Electric Supply & Transport Undertaking, popularly known as BEST, is set to introduce integrated voice response system (IVRS) to aid Mumbaikaars in their everyday travails of commuting.

“Even today, commuters are not able to use the BEST services to the optimum, simply because they not aware of all the routes and places that we ply,” says Vinayak Amdekar, assistant general manager (Traffic Operations), BEST.

BEST is currently testing the new service, through which commuters will be able to call up a specific number and ask for details about how to reach certain locations.

“It will be a one-stop information point for all our commuters and help them with how to use the information better,” he adds.

The service will be launched in the next few months. The undertaking is also planning to introduce a short-code for this IVRS. The undertaking is not incurring any cost for the service. The whole model is advertising based and the company that is introducing the service will use the channel for promotion of products and services. However, Amdekar would not reveal the company’s name.

BEST runs a fleet of 3400 vehicles in Mumbai and other districts. There are a total of 355 routes and average daily passenger traffic is over 4 million daily. The daily average earning of the undertaking is Rs 2.2 crores.
