Moving Beyond “Regenerate Everything”
Anyone who has experimented with AI-generated video is familiar with the trade-off: accept small imperfections or regenerate an entire clip and lose what worked. Firefly’s new Prompt to Edit controls aim to change that equation.
Instead of regenerating full videos, creators can now make targeted changes to existing clips using text instructions powered by Runway’s Aleph model. A misplaced object, an unwanted background element, or a subtle lighting issue can be corrected without discarding the original output.
This approach reflects a shift in how Adobe views generative AI, not as a one-shot generator, but as an editable medium that fits into iterative creative processes. For teams producing marketing videos, social content, or brand storytelling at scale, that distinction matters.
Camera Motion Becomes Part of the Prompt
Beyond static edits, Adobe is also extending control to camera movement. With the Firefly Video Model, creators can now upload a reference video to guide camera motion while anchoring the scene to a chosen start frame.
The result is closer to directed cinematography than random motion generation. For use cases such as product videos, explainer content, or brand narratives, this could reduce the trial-and-error cycles that often slow AI-assisted production.

Upscaling as a Workflow, Not a Separate Tool
Generative AI does not stop at creation; it often exposes quality gaps when assets move across platforms. Adobe’s integration of Topaz Astra into Firefly Boards addresses a practical issue: low-resolution or legacy footage that does not meet today’s distribution standards.
With Topaz Astra, creators can upscale footage to 1080p or 4K directly within Firefly Boards while continuing other tasks. This parallel processing model reflects how creative teams actually work, especially in agencies or marketing departments managing multiple assets simultaneously.
Rather than positioning upscaling as a standalone enhancement, Adobe is embedding it into the broader content assembly process.
Expanding the Model Ecosystem
Adobe is also widening the choice of image models available within Firefly. The addition of FLUX.2 from Black Forest Labs introduces a model optimised for photorealism, advanced text rendering, and multi-reference support.
By continuing to support both Adobe-built and partner models across Firefly and Creative Cloud tools, Adobe appears to be betting that flexibility, not exclusivity, will define the next phase of creative AI adoption.
Firefly Video Editor Enters Public Beta
The public beta of the Firefly video editor marks another step toward consolidation. Designed as a browser-based assembly space, the editor allows creators to combine AI-generated clips, live footage, music, and audio into finished stories.
Users can work either through a traditional timeline or by editing text transcripts, a feature that aligns well with interview-driven content and talking-head videos. Exports support multiple formats, from vertical social videos to widescreen outputs that integrate with traditional editing pipelines.
For Adobe, this positions Firefly not just as a generator, but as a connective layer between ideation and final delivery.
Adobe’s limited-time offer of unlimited image and video generations for eligible Firefly plans until January 15 is more than a promotional lever. It lowers the cost of experimentation at a moment when creators are still learning how to direct AI effectively.
