BANGALORE: India's largest software export house, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS),
has become the first and only firm in the world to have two of its centres, in
Gurgaon and Noida, to be assessed at PCMM Level 4 (Software and People
Capability Maturity Model) (Ver 2).
People-CMM Level 4 indicates that TCS’ two centres at Gurgaon and Noida
have adopted measurable practices by empowering workgroups and managing the
capability and performance of their workforce quantitatively.
The Software and People Capability Maturity Models (PCMM) has been designed
by US-based Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Mellon University and is
a roadmap for implementing workforce practices that continuously improve the
capability of an organization.
The PCMM model is a step forward the Software CMM and assesses the most
critical and indispensable component of the software industry, its people. Dr
Bill Curtis, Principal Architect of PCMM and his team, carried out the
assessment and announced the results today.
Level 4 practices provide a better input to the organization’s management
for taking strategic people practices related decisions, pro-actively manage the
capability of the organization thereby helping the organization improve the
performance of its projects and deliver timely and best-in-class solutions to
its clients located globally.
TCS chief executive officer S Ramadorai said, "This remarkable
achievement is an affirmation of the fact that TCS has the best talent and is
outstanding in terms of people capability. This is a milestone in TCS’
continuous quest for excellence and in line with our commitment to quality,
processes and methodologies leading to superior value proposition to its
customers."
"TCS centres at Noida and Gurgaon were able to achieve a P-CMM Level 4
capability by capitalizing on their software CMM Level 5 capabilities and
extending this approach to the implementation of their workforce
practices," said Dr Bill Curtis, Principal Architect of PCMM.
Commenting on the achievement, TCS executive vice president Phiroz Vandrevala
said, "This is indeed a very proud moment for us at TCS and for the Indian
IT Industry."
