TCS wins order from Karnataka for SDC project

BANGALORE, INDIA: IT services, business solutions and outsourcing major Tata Consultancy Services today said that it has won a contract to establish and manage the State Data Centre (SDC) for the state of Karnataka.

The state-of-the-art SDC will enhance the infrastructure required to consolidate the state level applications and will be interoperable with the existing infrastructure, TCS said in a press release.

While making this announcement M.N. Vidyashankar, Principal Secretary, e-Governance Department, Government of Karnataka, said that TCS has been selected to set up the State Data Center to enhance the infrastructure required for consolidating state level applications.

“The new data center will come up in Vikas Soudha, and our existing data center will become a Disaster Recovery Center. We would migrate all the applications from the existing SDC to the new one,” he said, adding “E-governance is the only good road to good governance and while technology is expensive, not using technology is even more expensive.”

TCS is already associated with Center for e-Governance in setting up new Secretariat LAN and managing the entire Secretariat LAN of Government of Karnataka for five years.

“With our proven methodology and expertise in implementing data centers for various state governments and other central government agencies, TCS will assist the government of Karnataka in establishing a reliable and efficient SDC. The new SDC would provide better operation & management control and minimize overall cost of Data Management, IT Resource Management, Deployment and other costs.” said Tanmoy Chakrabarty, head and vice president — Government ISU, TCS.
