TCS strengthens relationship with Best Buy

CHENNAI: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced strengthening of

relationship with Best Buy Co. Inc., the US-based retail major of consumer

electronics, personal computers, entertainment software and appliances.

TCS has been providing services such as application development, maintenance

and enhancements, performance engineering, process definition and deployment for

Best Buy, for the last two years. It operated out of onsite and offshore models

for the latter, and more than 140 consultants are presently engaged in the

project.

"We are proud to be associated with Best Buy for over two years and TCS

is the largest solution provider for Best Buy out of India earning $10 million

this year," said S Mahalingam, executive vice president, Tata Consultancy

Services.

Recently, Best Buy appointed Wipro as its strategic solution provider

operating out of India through offshore model. "Over 80 professionals (from

Wipro) are working with us," said Tim Bates, director - Business Office,

Best Buy Co., Inc.

Best Buy plans to focus on bringing digital and broadband services to its

stores in business and increase its offshore spending significantly in the

coming years.

"Presently, TCS and Wipro are the only strategic partners for Best Buy

operating out of India and there are no immediate plans of identifying more

vendors from this region," said Bates. TCS is the exclusive Application

System Maintenance partner for Best Buy in India.

Best Buy may also consider outsourcing business process, transaction

processing and back-end operation to Indian companies, in the coming years.
