THIRUVANTHAPURAM: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) will replicate its
corporate training model in overseas lands apart from it’s corporate training
house in Techno Park in Thiruvanthapuram. This need rose after TCS decided to
recruit additional local staff in its respective regions, across the globe.
About 400 to 500 foreign staff are expected to come on board within the next
three to four months.
Last year the corporate training was held thrice, overseas, twice in the US
and once in Budapest. This year apart from US and Europe, Japan is also on the
cards.
TCS, vice president for education and training, R Narayanan said, "We
have been recruiting locals in our overseas branches and felt the urge to
provide them the corporate training that is offered in India. It is important
for all TCS employees to be induced into the company and given the feel of the
corporate operations. Earlier we have been recruiting in 30s and 40s and this
year its in hundreds and replicating this in the respective region is viable
than flying them down here."
Every employee joining TCS, is welcomed by a four month corporate training
program held in Thiruvananthapuram. Started in 1996, this program has received
the highest Golden Peacock award, instituted by the World Quality Council for
imparting training.
"The training is held in this city because it is away from the maddening
pressure of projects. Quality of life, cost, connectivity, water, absence of
distractions like discos, pubs, etc, are some of the other benefits of this
place," said Narayanan.
Some of the modules of the training include technology, platform,
application, business skill, technical skill and "light" skills. Apart
from these they are also enhanced on their analytical, implementation,
communication and personality skills. At any given point of time, there are
about 600 candidates undergoing this training.
TCS, apart from being the country’s largest software exporter is also one
of the largest employer in the IT industry. This year, inspite of the recession,
it had promised to increase its staff’s strength by about 5000.
