TCS gets Puducherry data center contract

CHENNAI, INDIA: Indian IT major Tata Consultancy Services recently announced that it has bagged a contract to establish and manage the State Data Centre (SDC) from Puducherry government.

The SDC was launched in the state by Union minister of State for Communications and Information Technology, Sachin Pilot. It is expected to put in place infrastructure to consolidate state-level applications like commercial taxes application, state service delivery gateway and e-District, said a press release.

“Apart from Puducherry, TCS is implementing data centres for various central government agencies as well as for Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh state data centres under the National e-Governance Plan," said Tanmoy Chakrabarty, head and vice president, (global government industry group), TCS.

The services would be offered through common delivery platform supported by core connectivity infrastructure such as State Wide Area Network (SWAN) and Common Service Centre (CSC) connectivity extended up to village level, the release added.

“This data center will prove to be a milestone in the IT enablement of the state. The Puducherry e-Governance Society (PeGS) under the Directorate of Information Technology is committed to the development of the state and has completed several assignments,” said RP Pal IAS, Secretary — IT, Government of Puducherry.
