TCS among top 10 profitable cos

BANGALORE, INDIA: Mumbai-based Tata Consultancy Services is the only Indian firm to figure in the BusinessWeek list of the world's top 10 profitable companies.

TCS, with 46.1 per cent return on equity, figures in the ninth place, while Grupo IUSACell leads the list of companies with 226.2 per cent return on equity.

Windstream is in the second place, followed by Amazon.com, BT Group and Accenture in the third, fourth and fifth slots, respectively.

Cosmote Mobile Telecom is in the sixth position, with High Tech Computer and Millicom Intl Cellular occupying the next two ranks. VTech Holdings is ranked 10th.

In the global magazine's "2007 Information Technology 100" listing TCS is ranked 23rd among the world's infotech firms.

According to the magazine, TCS has been growing since it went public in 2004. It has registered rapid growth with a 41 per cent increase in revenues to $4.3 billion for the fiscal year ended March 31.

TCS has over 89,000 IT consultants in 47 countries.
