MUMBAI, INDIA: Faqir Chand Kohli popularly known as FC Kohli—the Father of the Indian software industry, and also the Founder and first CEO of TCS, got a befitting tribute today.
TCS is setting up FC Kohli Center on Intelligent Systems (KCIS) at IIIT, Hyderabad. With an investment of Rs 20 crore, the lab will be developed in 60,000 sqft of built-up area, the company said.
The center will act as a force multiplier in attracting projects and funds from the government and industry sectors, co-ordinate research not only at IIIT but also other academic institutes in India.
“Kohli’s pioneering role in the Indian IT industry is very well documented. KCIS will carry out high impact research in intelligent systems which are a critical area for innovations in natural language, robotics and cognitive sciences,” said N Chandrasekaran, CEO & MD, TCS.
JP Narayanan, Director, IIIT, said, “KCIS will help in imparting high quality training to bachelors, masters and doctoral students. Vigorous research at KCIS will have the potential to impact the society through forefront research, innovative products and start-ups.”
