HYDERABAD: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a global software and consulting
company is going to focus more on developing framework for smart- governance
practices. Aimed at making interactions between the government and citizens
(G2C), government and business segments (G2B) and the inter-governmental
agencies (G2G) friendlier, convenient, transparent and inexpensive. The
s-government practice has developed broad framework and products, which can be
customized to the needs of any government or individual department.
At TCS there are more than 600 people engaged towards developing projects on the
lines of s-governance practices. It has developed a framework, which will
provide services in three broad areas - information services, interactive
services, and payment services. The company has developed various products for
tax administration, motor vehicle registration and licensing and public
distribution systems among others.
The company has been working very closely with the state of AP on various
initiatives and one of the significant projects is www.aponline.gov.in- the
e-governance portal for the government of AP has been developed to offer the
people of AP anytime anywhere services. The portal will act as a direct
interface between the government and people enhancing efficiency and increasing
accountability.
Elaborating on s-governance practice TCS CEO, S Ramadorai said, "The
concept of e-governance is evolving in the country and our s-governance practice
has been going some work on the ground in the field. We have already worked on
projects with the state of West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. We are
in the process of talks with the government of Kashmir and Maharashtra to start
some initiatives in this direction".
"With the state government's plans to increase the Internet access in the
state through the public access mode, the portal is slated to become the common
man's medium to interface with the government. In a similar move we are also
developing and designing a portal for the state of West Bengal. It is going to
be launched sometime next month," informed TCS Head, S- governance
practice, V Chandrashekhar.
As of now TCS has a team of more than 1,100 software professionals located at
its Hyderabad center and over a period of two years it is going to double its
manpower strength at Hyderabad. "Our Hyderabad center is crucial to us
because of the availability of good manpower so we are hoping to increase the
strength to about 2,200 within two years," Chandrashekhar added.
