TCS to deploy State Data Center for Karnataka

DELHI, INDIA: Tata Consultancy Services, the leading IT services, business solutions and outsourcing firm announced that it has won a contract for establishing and managing the State Data Centre (SDC) for the state of Karnataka.

The SDC would enhance the infrastructure required to consolidate the state level applications and would be interoperable with the existing infrastructure.

TCS is already associated with Center for e-Governance in setting up new Secretariat LAN and managing the entire Secretariat LAN of Government of Karnataka for Five years, said a press release.

“IT major like TCS has rightfully emerged as winner in the transparent process bidding to set up the State Data Center to enhance the infrastructure required for consolidating state level applications,” said M.N. Vidyashankar, Principal Secretary, e-Governance Department, Government of Karnataka.

He further said that the new data center would come up in Vikas Soudha, and the existing data center would become a Disaster Recovery Center. They would migrate all the applications from the existing SDC to the new one.

“ E-governance is the only good road to good governance and while technology is expensive, not using technology is even more expensive,” noted Vidyashankar.

Tanmoy Chakrabarty, head and vice president, Government ISU added, “With our proven methodology and expertise in implementing data centers for various state governments and other central government agencies, TCS would assist the government of Karnataka in establishing a reliable and efficient SDC.”

He further added that the new SDC would provide better operation and management control and minimize overall cost of Data Management, IT Resource Management, Deployment and other costs.
