TCS commences operations in Uruguay

NEW DELHI: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a global software solutions and

consulting services company, has announced the launch of its operations in

Uruguay, South America, marked by the inauguration of its new Global Development

Center (GDC) in the country. The inauguration of the GDC in Uruguay at the hands

of Dr. Jorge Patlle, President of Uruguay and Ramadorai, CEO, TCS makes TCS the

first Indian Company to launch its operations in Uruguay. TCS is looking at an

investment size of $ 30 million and an employee strength of 500 employees in the

Country over the next five years.

The GDC, is located at the Free Trade Zone of Montevideo (capital of

Uruguay). The GDC at Uruguay will handle systems development, maintenance and

outsourcing, besides testing and certification of software produced by third

parties, especially Microsoft. The GDC will service most of the Latin American

Countries including Uruguay, Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela besides some

parts of the United States. Clients that will be actively serviced from the GDC

include BCI Bank, AIG, COMPAQ, and Eli Lilliy.

Speaking on the occasion, TCS CEO, Ramadorai said, "The inauguration of

the GDC at Uruguay is part of our broad strategy to come closer to customers in

the region and have a global workforce. Uruguay offers excellent talent source

to serve the Latin American market. TCS has already recruited 17 consultants and

we welcome them as part of the Tata family."






The global development center at Uruguay is the ninth overseas development
center of the company.
