TCS bids for stake in GE

MUMBAI: General Electric's (GE) BPO operations in India could be the first major acquisition for TCS after IPO. The company is the frontrunner in the bid for a large chunk of GE's BPO operations in India.


Apart from TCS, Convergys and HP are the other bidders. GE has placed a tag of $one billion for the sale of its BPO operations which is believed to the largest cross border deal. GECIS India employs around 12,000 people and has 700 processes.


Sources close to the deal have also confirmed that, TCS is contemplating ramping up its BPO operations. Soon after IPO, TCS CEO, Ramadorai also hinted at growing organically as well as inorganically and that the company would look at acquisitions in BPO space.


GE Capital International Services (GECIS), the BPO arm of GE, does captive work for GE.
