Tata Telecom launches IP telephony products

NEW DELHI: Tata Telecom has announced the launch of a host of new converged products from Avaya that increase the security of Internet protocol (IP) telephony, simplify the management of converged networks, and enable enterprises to meet the needs of increasingly mobile end users.



The product portfolio includes new generation of Avaya's software applications, media servers and gateways and IP telephones targeted at small, medium and large enterprises. All of these products are powered by the new release of the company's flagship IP telephony software, Communication Manager 2.0.



The new release - Communication Manager 2.0 offers a comprehensive set of features for IP telephony. the new features announced include increased security, multi-lingual capabilities, greater mobility with enhanced extension-to-cellular, etc. It is available now for either in a single-site or multi-site edition specifically packaged for distributed enterprises.



The software serves as the foundation for all of Avaya's converged products, including new introductions like media gateway designed for small branch offices (Avaya G350 Media Gateway), media gateway for medium-to-large sized enterprises with mission-critical communications (Avaya G650 Media Gateway), media server for medium-to-large sized organizations (Avaya S8500 Media Server), mid-range IP telephone, featuring a graphic display and Web-enabled capabilities (Avaya 4610SW IP Telephone), IP speakerphone for conference room deployment featuring wide microphone coverage (Avaya 4690 IP Speakerphone), two wireless IP phones: a compact version for general enterprise deployment (Avaya 3616 IP Wireless Telephone), a rugged version for industrial and institutional applications (Avaya 3626 IP Wireless Telephone) and the new version of the company's IP messaging application (Avaya Modular Messaging 1.1).



In order to popularize these products in the market, Tata Telecom is organizing roadshows specific to the vertical that these products are targeting. Pricing depends on the number of users, functionality, customization, etc.



According to Tata Telecom national marketing manager Manish Sablok, India market is evolving IP telephony and the company is expanding its portfolio to cater to the high end high application converged IP telephony environment. The company currently has 30-35 clients in IP telephony and expects to garner revenue of $30 million in 2004. It is looking forward to leverage all these applications to become #1 and is targeting verticals such as software companies, manufacturing companies, FMCGs, BFSI, contact centers, etc. for its product portfolio. In H1, 2003, the company had a market share of 59.9 percent and according to Sablok it wants to further maintain and consolidate this share.
