HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh based private basic telecom operator Tata
Teleservices Ltd. (TTL) has added 12 Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) cell
sites to its existing base of 18 cell sites in the twin cities.
Ajay Pandey, COO, TTL, said, "In keeping with our plans to expand the
coverage area for our wireless customers, we have added 12 more CDMA cells sites
in the first phase."
These cell sites are expected to increase the overall coverage area from 110
sq. km to 150 sq. km in Hyderabad, and improve the quality of voice transmission
on the wireless circuit. The network is also designed to help improve the
quality of voice transmission on TATA mobitel and fixed wireless connections.
Among the various technologies available for wireless deployment, a CDMA
network needs lesser number of cell sites to cover the same area vis-Ã -vis a
GSM network.
The increase in cell sites is part of the first phase of the Rs 500 crore-investment
program towards expansion of coverage area for wireless. TTL plans to create a
3G capable network, to enable introduction of wireless communication products
and services.
The telecom operator has a customer base of over 75,000 in Hyderabad,
Vijayawada, Guntur and Visakhapatnam. The company will extend services to six
new towns before the end of the year.
