Tata Tel CEO N. Srinath said Centrex enabled a customer to use facilities similar to those provided by an EPABX while retaining the benefits of a direct line. Unlike a typical EPABX, each user will have a direct number on which she can be accessed. This is an addition to the three-digit or four-digit number, which the user has for internal communication.

Centrex provides the user with the unique facility of a direct line to the exchange thus enhancing his productivity. The user continues to enjoy all the benefits of a direct line such as password for STD calls and ability to use the line for data/fax. Mr Srinath said the Centrex service was yet another step in the progression of Tata Teleservices as a complete telecom solutions provider in Andhra Pradesh.

With Centrex, the customer does not have to invest in separate EPABXs as the functionality of the EPABX is provided by TTL's main switch. All the lines go directly from TTL's main switch to the customer, eliminating the intermediate EPABX and related equipment and the associated costs. Centrex is continuously scalable and upgradable. The technology helps in offering an individual bill and facilities such as call line identification.
