Tata Indicom offers freedom from monthly recharge

NEW DELHI/BANGALORE: With an objective to expand its subscriber base in the country, Tata Teleservices today launched the Tata Indicom 'Non Stop Mobile', by extending the validity for two years upon a single recharge and freeing mobile subscribers from monthly recharge.

Speaking at the launching, Dr. Naresh Malhan, president, operations, Tata Teleservices said that this new service is the first of its kind in the country. "There is no monthly commitment to recharge. Above all, the recharge coupons are available from Rs.50 with 100 percent talk time. We are deeply committed to translate the Tata Vision in to the field of communications bringing a fair deal and better quality of life to millions of Indians with this unique service," Malhan said.

The Non Stop Mobile service also offers free roaming in over 1500 locations in the country. Malhan said that they would expand their services in 2500 towns by March 2006. Tata claims to offer low cost call rates both for local and long distance calls through this new service. It would charge Re.1 for a single SMS. He assured the customers that there would not be any hidden costs or processing charge on the recharge coupons.

This scheme is valid till November 30, or till stocks last.

At present Tata Indicom 'True Paid' launched in January this year has two million subscribers. However, they are targeting around 10 million subscriber base by March 2006. " We are a new player in the field of telecom and that is the main reason for low subscriber base, but we believe this new revolutionary service will change the way communication for Indians," Malhan added. It aims to contribute to the Telecom Ministry's target of achieving 250 million subscriber base by 2008.

As on September 30, the company's subscriber base stood at 5.6 million spread across 1500 towns.

The Non Stop Mobile connection will be available across the country through all retail outlets including Tata Indicom True Value Hubs, Shoppes and Express.

This service is available on four mobile handsets -- Indicom Star, Indicom Ace, Samsung Neo and Kyocera Prisma.
