The new venture would be modelled on the lines of Flipkart and Amazon and the new e-commerce site will retail consumer and electronic products from the Tata group as well as other brands.

Presently, Tatas run e-commerce portals for Croma, Landmark, Star Bazaar and Westside department store.

It must be recalled that the Group started putting together a team for its foray into e-commerce marketplace under Ashutosh Pandey, former COO of the Group's bookstore chain Landmark, last year.

For this, the company had roped in big-wigs like Sarvesh Dwivedi, Head, Lifestyle Division, eBay India and Gurvinderjit Singh Samra, a Tata Group veteran.

E-commerce in India is expected to almost double in two years to $20 billion by 2015 from $11 billion in 2013, according to Motilal Oswal Securities report on e-commerce.
