Play would implement Tata's voice termination product VTS Prime Solution to manage customer call quality. VTS Prime allows mobile operators to pass on the burden of ensuring high quality international calls to another telecom operator.

Piotr Kuriata, carrier relations director, Play, said: "We chose to work with Tata Communications because of their extensive network backbone and experience, which was well positioned to fully manage and support issues our company was facing as a start-up operator,' in a joint statement."

Gaurav Anand, vice-president, Tata Communications (mobile voice services), said: "Mobile operators need robust voice solutions that provide the highest levels of quality for their subscribers when making and receiving international calls both in their home country as well as when roaming abroad."
