Tata Comm completes intra-Asia undersea cabling

NEW JERSEY, USA: Telecommunication services provider Tata Communications, together with its supplier Tyco Telecommunications, a provider in undersea communication services, today announced that they have completed the installation, testing and commissioning of the TGN-Intra Asia(TGN-IA) cable system.

The fully operational 6700km TGN-I system links Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, Vietanam and the Philippines, providing route diversity throughout the Asia-Pacific region, said a press release.

“The Tata Communications team is very excited to have completed out TGN-IA cable system, with the unwavering support of Tyco Telecommunications, ” said Simon Cooper, vice president, network strategy, architecture and optimization, Tata Communications.

He added that this system would meet the ongoing need for increasingly robust international connectivity, and would help to enable continued growth and development in Asia-Pacific region.

The system which was strategically designed and routed to avoid earthquake and hazardous areas in the Asia Pacific region, has an initial design capacity of 3.8 tbps on a city center to city center basis and provides record breaking latency between South East and Northern Asia.

The TGN Intra-Asia cable system is unique in offering a direct fiber path between Singapore and Tokyo, so delivering the fastest available connectivity, the release added.

He added that the system would not only provide enhanced communications capabilities for citizens throughout SouthEast Asia, it would also promote global business growth and serve as the sole direct fiber route between Singapore and Japan.
