Target plans large expansion in Bangalore

BANGALORE: US retail major Target Corp., which has around 200 employees working at its Bangalore service center, plans to up its headcount to around 2000 in a couple of years.

According to BV Naidu, chairman, STPI, the company's expansion plan was approved two months ago and it involves an investment of around $25-$30 million.

Target's decision for a huge services center in India follows the route of another retail giant, the UK-based Tesco, which entered India two years back and now has a 1000-member strong services division in India.

The Minneapolis, US-based Target, which was ranked 27th in the Fortune listings, closed revenues of $52 billion in 2005.
