MUMBAI: Neville Taraporewalla, head, Yahoo! India, has called it quits. He has been with Yahoo! India for over 4 years and was heading the company since 2003. The news has come as a shocker for most of the industry as Taraporewalla was largely held responsible for the change in fortunes of the search giant in India.

Taraporewalla had joined Yahoo! India as director (sales) and had taken over the reign from Darren Gocher. Under his aegis, Yahoo! India was seen to adapt more to the Indian community. The company had launched Indian version of Yahoo! Answers. Also, the company had tied up with numerous other Indian companies, like Rediff.com, Shaadi.com, and others.

“I will be taking a break before any new assignment,” is all that Taraporewalla is ready to say at the moment. Meanwhile Yahoo! India has given an official statement from George Zacharias, MD, Yahoo! India, “Neville has quit Yahoo! India for exploring better opportunities. And we wish him all the best for the future.”

Today was his last day, and in the coming days it will be obvious, what the “better opportunities” as described in the official communique, are.
