CHENNAI: This would be yet another IT initiative by the Government of Tamil Nadu (TN) to boost their e-governance activities. The online facility to register and issue the Provisional SSI Registration Certificate to the new Small Scale Entrepreneurs of Tamil Nadu happens to be the first online facility of its kind in India. This facility is available as a link from the official site of the State Government.

The recently launched site introduced by the Department of Industries and Commerce, Tamil Nadu is intended to help the new entrepreneurs in getting the SSI Provisional Registration Certificate without any difficulty and delay. Hereafter, any new entrepreneur who proposes to start a SSI unit in Tamil Nadu need not while away his time visiting the respective District Industries Center (DIC)/ Regional Joint Director to get the Provisional Certificate form and then again walk in and out to submit the filled in application form.

Instead the new facility will deliver the application form online through

recognized centers or industrial associations (called browsing centers) rather

than contacting the respective DICs and Regional Joint Director. Once the

browsing center receives the self-certified copy of the application, it will be

followed by the generation of the online Provisional SSI Registration

Certificate to the applicant.

The online certificate shall be valid only if the application is

self-certified by the applicant as well as acknowledged by the approved Browsing

Center. In case the applicant fails to present the self-certified copy of the

generated application to the General Manager, DIC or the Regional Joint Director

of Industries and Commerce, Chennai within one month from the date of

generation, this online certificate will be cancelled.

The website has the entire listing of all the approved browsing centers

available in every district with the name and address. Chennai has nearly

nineteen browsing centers.
