BANGALORE: Accounting software major Tally
Solutions is hoping to bank on the Tally developer community to increase Tally's
adoption in the market.
Recently, the company opened up its source code and is encouraging the
developer ecosystem to build solutions around the Tally platform using the Tally
Definition Language (TDL).
TDL is an editing and compiling tool that allows developers to build
customized solutions to suit a business segment's need. “This is our first
step towards making Tally a platform of choice for application developers. We
are building an ecosystem to support the growing number of customers and their
specific requirements,” said D Kalyanaraman, president and global head, Value
Services business, Tally (India) Pvt. Ltd.
The tool would be targeted at potential developers with ISVs, entrepreneurs,
students and Tally partners. Kalyanaraman is hoping to build initial traction
through TDL certified professionals, which is currently estimated at 500-600.
The company is planning to hold events in colleges and rural areas to promote
the initiative. Some developers have already used TDL to build solutions for the
jewellery segment, chit funds segment and the Agarbathi industry.
The company is also planning to broaden the developer ecosystem outside India
in the Middle-East, Singapore, SAARC region, North Africa, Malaysia and
Indonesia.
Tally is looking for partners with domain expertise in verticals such as
automotive, healthcare and building construction. While services around Tally
are offered mostly by the company's partners, it plans to increase its
services share of the business to 20-30 per cent of revenues in the coming year.
