Features: Imagine being able to use a single software package that can enable one to issue a delivery challan to an Ahmedabad-based supplier in Gujarati while preparing the balance sheet in Kannada or any other Indian language.

Indian accounting software outfit Tally (India) has made it possible to bridge the language barrier in accounting software. The company today launched two editions of what it says is the world's first "concurrent multi-lingual" business accounting software. Simply put, this means that small businesses can now use a single software license to choose and use a language of their choice from ten Indian languages.

The software is available in two editions TallySilver 8.1 for a single user and TallyGold 8.1 for multiple users.

Using TallyGold, multiple users can use multiple interfaces in various languages with an English language keyboard. Tally's in-built transliteration engine allows one to convert the text into the language of choice.

Announcing the release to the media, Bharat Goenka, MD, Tally (India) said, " Most efforts in language computing has not met with success because the objective was difficult. It took us 15 years to solve the difficulties in dealing with language technology to make a product that's easy to use."

Tally 8.1 is available in ten languages including Hindi, Punjabi, Marathi, Gujarati, Oriya, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. Goenka said that Tally 8.1 would be available in Urdu in April-May this year.
