BANGALORE, August 20 : Synopsys Inc. will provide all front-end EDA (electronic data
automation) tools for special manpower development for VLSI (very large systems
integration) design related software project of the DoE. VLSI education is key to the
Government’s goal of making India a major centre of design activities in future.
The project, initiated by the Department of Electronics, is part of the
Government’s effort for VLSI education, which is key to its goal of making India a
major centre for design activities in the future.
Under the program, 19 top technical universities such as IITs will set up VLSI
laboratory equipped with various Synopsys front-end tools. India has good potential of
becoming a design superpower, said DoE secretary Ravindra Gupta.
Synopsys, which has a research and development centre at Bangalore, the first outside
the US, hopes that some part of the shortage of design professionals would be solved
through the programme, said Synopsys India managing director Sanjay Nayak.
Synopsys also held its mini-design automation conference in Bangalore, the fourth
annual such event, meant to make design professionals here aware of the latest Synopsys
tools, technologies and trends in the design industry worldwide.
