Synopsys buys CoWare

SAN FRANCISCO: Synopsys Incorporated, the leading vendor of EDA and IP, based in Mountain View, California, the United States, has announced its second major acquisition within a span of 2 weeks.

The company says it has signed a definitive agreement to buy CoWare Incorporated, the vendor of electronic system-level (ESL) design software, headquartered in San Jose, California.

The financial terms of the deal have not been revealed. A week ago, Synopsys had said it bought Vast Systems Technology Corporation, the provider of virtual system prototyping technology.

Synopsys has explained that the acquisition of CoWare Incorporated will expand its portfolio of system design as well as verification products used in consumer, wireless, and automotive design.

An official of Synopsys said the company has not yet decided whether the employees and executives of CoWare will join Synopsys following the acquisition. Synopsys Incorporated, its official added, values the knowledge and expertise of the employees of CoWare, and will review the transition plans within the next few weeks.

In the statement, Joachim Kunkel, senior vice-president and general manager (Solutions Group) of Synopsys, said the acquisition of CoWare Incorporated is bound to enable to Synopsis to develop and bring new standards-based solutions to market so that engineers can design processor and software-intensive products faster.
