BANGALORE,IDNIA: Symphony Teleca Corporation, a global innovation and development services company, announced that through its license as a Reference Design Kit (RDK) scaling partner and systems integrator, it has been developing an innovative portfolio of RDK-based solutions, integration and testing services, built on the RDK software stack, which provides a streamlined approach to the development and deployment of advanced set-top, gateway, and system-on-a-chip (SoC) platforms.

Earlier this summer, Symphony Teleca unveiled its TweeTV application as an example of how it is providing design and innovation to the RDK ecosystem. The Twitter hashtag-based guide to social TV watching and interactive Twitter and TV mashup is optimized for an immersive 10-foot experience. Tweets containing an event's hashtag are displayed as an overlay or crawl, accessed by browsing an alternative user interface that tag-clouds TV content based on trending hashtags.

Symphony Teleca also will offer a full suite of services built upon the RDK, including RDK stack porting; customization of the RDK for MSO; RDK optimization; Adobe Flash, Adobe Access, Microsoft Smooth Streaming, and Microsoft PlayReady porting; test & validation; interface design and full application development using Symphony Teleca's Center of Excellence for Video and Audio Professional Software Services.

The Reference Development Kit (RDK) is a pre-integrated software bundle that powers tru2way, IP or hybrid set-top boxes and works with the CableLabs OCAP Reference Implementation software along with other open source components. Comcast licenses the RDK to OEMs, systems integrators, SOCs, software vendors, and MVPDs to create a community of innovators focused on bringing rich, multi-screen TV home entertainment experiences to consumers faster.

"The RDK significantly improves the set-top box development cycle for Symphony Teleca, enabling us to develop more interactive, rich and personalized home entertainment solutions, and more easily provide a full range of services within the connected TV and set-top box development lifecycle," said Andrew Till, Senior Vice President of Mobile and Media Devices, Symphony Teleca. "Our deep expertise in set-top box development, ideation, and commercial grade software engineering based on RDK ensures that device vendors stay ahead of the curve in innovation."
