Smart Tagging allows customers to reduce archival storage costs, ongoing litigation risk and back-end search and discovery costs by automatically and flexibly classifying incoming messages.

Orchestria is part of the Symantec Intelligent Archiving Partner program, which would provide customers with information regarding the content and context of their data in order to make more informed decisions around archiving, storage, retention and discovery.

"Corporations are often required to archive all business communication, but current archiving software tools lack detailed visibility over what type of content ends up in the company archives," said Nick Mehta, senior director, product management, Symantec Corp.

"With Orchestria, our customers can be confident that messages are accurately classified and managed appropriately with regards to hierarchical storage retention and preservation."

Based on defined policies, Orchestria's technology accurately identifies the relevance of each communication and creates metadata with specific characteristics about each message. This metadata can be used to drive reduced archival storage costs and manage litigation risk.

"This agreement will allow Enterprise Vault customers to experience an enhanced level of accuracy in classifying communication," said Bo Manning, CEO of Orchestria.

"Combining Orchestria's Smart Tagging with Symantec's archiving solution will create a system unparalleled in sophistication and effectiveness.

According to a press release, Orchestria will sell its Smart Tagging technology to Enterprise Vault customers and provide support.
