MUMBAI: Symantec Corp today announced the availability of Veritas NetBackup 6.0 PureDisk Remote Office Edition, which enables enterprises to improve the reliability, security and manageability of remote office data backup and recovery.

The latest addition to the NetBackup product family, NetBackup PureDisk software leverages advanced technologies in disk-to-disk backup, data reduction, encryption, replication and centralized administration, to directly address the most pressing challenges associated with remote office backup, including tape administration, lack of skilled IT personnel at remote offices and the risks involved with transporting un-encrypted backup tapes offsite.

Existing NetBackup customers standardize on a single backup and recovery platform for their data center and remote offices, Symantec said in a statement. NetBackup

PureDisk is based on technology from Data Center Technologies (DCT), a private company that Symantec acquired in 2005.

”NetBackup PureDisk will allow us to secure our customers' data, both in the data center and across the network, while simplifying the backup process," said Larry Lozon, vice president, Data Center Services, EDS. "The new offering from Symantec will allow us to reduce both our secondary storage usage and bandwidth consumption for backups, helping us drive down storage costs for our clients, while protecting business

critical data."
