Symantec helps customers migrate to Windows 7

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Symantec Corp announced its support for Microsoft Windows 7, with its Norton-branded consumer products and enhanced versions of its enterprise security, backup and recovery and migration technologies. Working closely with Microsoft, Symantec has engineered solutions to help Microsoft customers’ migration to Windows 7.

Vishal Dhupar, MD, Symatec India said, “Our customers need solutions that ease migration and provide protection as they upgrade their IT environment to Windows 7. Symantec is committed to providing Microsoft customers with the solutions they need to migrate to Windows 7 with confidence.”

Norton Internet Security 2010 and Norton AntiVirus 2010, which feature a new Quorum reputation-based technology, were designed specifically to deliver security for Windows 7. Additionally, Norton Internet Security 2009, Norton AntiVirus 2009 and Norton 360 Version 3.0 have all been updated to support Windows 7. Active subscribers will automatically receive the appropriate compatibility update online, and no user action will be required.

In addition to such offers OnlineFamily.Norton, Norton Online Backup and Norton Utilities are all Windows 7 compatible. Users of older versions of Norton security products can visit the Norton Update Center for information on how to get the latest versions of their products and to see if a Windows 7 compatible version is available.

Symantec has deployed and migrated more than 300 million desktops and notebooks to Windows 2000, XP, Vista—and now Windows 7. Symantec solutions automate the Windows 7 migration process and help users cut migration cost and complexity.

Altiris Deployment Solution from Symantec helps ease the migration to Windows 7 and enables deployment for organizations of all sizes. Altiris Client Management Suite from Symantec utilizes the same Windows 7 migration activities and adds broad IT lifecycle management capabilities for ongoing deployment, management and troubleshooting. Windows 7 imaging and migration support are offered now with Altiris Deployment Solution and Altiris Client Management Suite.

Upcoming versions of Symantec Backup Exec and Backup Exec System Recovery will support Windows 7, enabling small and mid-sized businesses to restore data or complete Windows 7 desktops and laptops immediately, even to dissimilar hardware.

Symantec products which are compatible with Windows 7 include Altiris Deployment Solution, Endpoint Protection, Norton Internet Security 2010, Norton AntiVirus 2010, Norton Internet Security 2009, Norton AntiVirus 2009, Norton 360 Version 3.0, Wise Package Studio and Workspace Virtualization. Products scheduled to be compatible with Windows 7 in late 2009 or early 2010 include Backup Exec, Backup Exec System Recovery, Client Management Suite, Control Compliance Suite, Data Loss Prevention, Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition, Endpoint Virtualization Suite, Enterprise Vault, Ghost Solution Suite and NetBackup.
