NEW DELHI: Symantec Corporation, a provider of anti-virus technology, plans

to launch content security products in the late quarter of the year in India. It

has targeted the Internet Service Providers for providing these solutions and

has a set of products targeted at the mobile users (pcANYWHERE and Mobile

Essentials). Symantec is also targeting the ISPs as the source or mechanism to

deliver I-Gear and Mail-Gear products. It is expecting a turnover of $700

billion at the end of the current fiscal.

These products became a part of Symantec's portfolio following its acquisition
of URLabs for a value of $42 million. According to Mr. Enrique Salem, Vice

President, Security and Assistance Business Unit, "Our strategy right now

is to be the market leader in 'content security' and if there is an acquisition

needed to further that strategy we will pursue it. The challenge for us is to

collaborate and work with the Indian ISPs and make them understand the concept

of security beyond virus protection.
