The forum enables developers share code samples, collaborate on open source projects, and participate in community discussions . Membership is free. Most Sybase products are represented in CodeXchange. Sybase products that are listed in CodeXchange are its PowerBuilder, PowerDesigner, Adaptive Server Enterprise, Replication Server, EAServer, Enterprise Portal, and Sybase Open Source for ebXML messaging.

"The introduction of CodeXchange establishes SDN as a truly interactive community," said Marty Beard, senior vice president, Corporate Development and Marketing, Sybase, Inc. "This effort reinforces Sybase’s commitment to its developer community by offering a wide-range of free, easy-to-use tools and services. By enabling developers to share their expertise and ideas with the community at large, we expect CodeXchange to lead to new and innovative solutions based on Sybase technology."

"CodeXchange will help me tap into the collective knowledge of other Sybase developers, allowing me to not only code more efficiently but also more creatively," said Bruce Armstrong, senior developer, Kforce.com. "The immediate access to code samples and the collaborative insight into specific products makes CodeXchange a significant asset to the Sybase developer community."

PowerBuilder 9.0 developers can use CodeXchange as a platform for sharing PowerBuilder Native Interface (PBNI) files, which are used to extend the functionality of PowerBuilder.

The company said its CodeXchange will also host a Sybase Enterprise Portal portlet catalog, which enables developers upload and download portlets to create portal-enabled applications. The code-sharing forum has a Concurrent Versioning System (CVS) to enable joint development on utilities or other tools submitted by the community.
