LONDON, UK: Swyx, a market-leading vendor of unified communications (UC) for SMEs, has announced Web Extensions as a new innovative feature for its software based solution SwyxWare.

The new functionality enables Swyx-It! softphone users to draw on all types of web-based information such as Google Maps, stock market information or RSS news feeds to improve their interactions with their callers. The application works by displaying relevant web pages as part of the user's softphone and can use existing customer data to determine what information is 'popped' on-screen. The technology is aimed in particular at SMEs that have customer services, help-desk or call centre operation.

Commenting on the new features, Jayne Dimmick, director, product marketing, says: "Swyx is committed to a strategy of providing enhanced value and benefits to its channel customers and end-users. Our success in the SME sector has been largely due to the high functionality we provide compared with rival products. The introduction of the Swyx-It! Web Extensions gives both small and large companies massive potential to take advantage of the resources of the World Wide Web in tailoring customer communications."

She continues, "Swyx-It! Web Extensions gives our business partners the ability to add value to each of their clients by providing customized web-based solutions that directly match the client's commercial operations. For example, using this technology it would now be possible for a customer to incorporate local content, such as mapping information based on the postcode of a caller, directly into their Swyx-It! softphone. The advantage especially for SMEs: with SwyxWare this functionality is available as a standard feature."

Swyx has already developed a series of softphone skins with Web Extensions including integration of Google Maps. The Swyx-It! Web Extensions feature will be available in SwyxWare 6.12, out in June.
