Sweet tweets laud Vidya Balan's 'Silky' show

BANGALORE, INDIA: It was a rosy picture for Bollywood actress Vidya Balan on Twitter on Friday. The Dirty Picture star was a hot trending topic all through the day, when the movie opened to full houses and critical acclaim.

Actors, film-makers, critics and audiences alike, tellingly from their tweets, have taken a strong liking to her supposed portrayal of yesteryear sizzler Silk Smitha, without any kolaveri.

The latter's name was also trending the whole day, which towards the end saw #TheDirtyPicture emerge for a brief period the top trend in India. Surprisingly, the late siren's name had more mentions than that of Balan's.

Actor Vivek Oberoi started it all on Wednesday, stating, "Jst watched #TheDirtyPicture -vidya balan is beyond brilliant! Hats off to a phenomenal performance! Fabulous film all round!!!" (sic)

There was a similar note of appreciation from Hindi film director Sujoy Ghosh, who retweeted, "THE BALAN RT @vivek_oberoi: Jst watched TheDirtyPicture vidya balan is beyond brilliant! Hats off to a phenomenal performance! Fabulous film." (sic)

Karan Johar took it to another level. "Every mainstream actress needs a grand lesson from vidya balan on how to submit and give your hear and soul to a role...she is beyond words!" (sic)

"Vidya Balan is awesome in the film. Congratulations to Producer Ekta, director Milan Luthria and writer Rajat Arora for the entertainment ! (sic)" was Arbaaz Khan's comment.

Balan's contemporary Sonakshi Sinha referred to the former as 'hero' eliciting some anti-male chauvinistic repartees. "Amongst us heroines, Vidya Balan is the only hero! Congratulations #thedirtypicture for a phenomenal start! can NOT wait to watch it." (sic)

Film critics were also not lagging behind in the race to lavish praises on Balan's performance in the film. Taran Adarsh tweeted, "The superb start of #TheDirtyPicture proves that Vidya Balan is the *hero* amongst heroines," and Shobhaa De had this to say, "Ooh-la-la Silk Balan secures her place at every 2012 Award function.So does Naseer'Lechy'uddin as 'Surya'.Dirty?Make that 'filthy'!" (sic)

A tweet from Aashi summed up the feeling, "Have to watch #thedirtypicture now for the amount of praises showered on Vidya Balan!"
