Suzuki Motorcycle India, a manufacturing plant in Gurugram, Haryana, with an annual capacity of 10, 00,000 two-wheelers has recently faced a cyber-attack.  As a result of this cyber attack the plant has been pause its manufacturing facilities for some time.

According to several sources, Suzuki Motorcycle India has had to shut down its manufacturing facilities in India due to a cyber-attack. The manufacturing plant has been closed since May 10, and it is estimated that the company has lost production of over 20,000 vehicles in this timeframe.

Suzuki is a Japanese company that manufactures a variety of products, including motorcycles, automobiles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), outboard marine engines, and wheelchairs. With the production of about a million units, Suzuki Motorcycle was the fifth -largest two-wheeler producer in the country in FY23.  It is a key export hub for Suzuki Motor Japan, with 20% of the Indian output catering to key global markets.

Suzuki Motorcycle India’s statement

To address the situation at hand, The Company made a decision as part of the company's measures, which includes ceasing production due to a cyber attack. Suzuki Motorcycle India has postponed its annual supplier conference, which was scheduled to be held next week, due to an "unprecedented business requirement"

In an email response, a Suzuki Motorcycle India spokesperson said, “We are aware of the incident and have promptly reported the same to the concerned Government department. The matter is currently under investigation, and for security purposes, we are unable to provide further details at this point in time.”

The spokesperson did not specify the source of the attack or when the production will resume again. Sources said that the plant should resume operations in the coming few days – but not later than early next week.

India is a crucial market for Suzuki Motor Corporation, with a significant portion of its global output coming from the country. The company has also been expanding its production capacity in India to meet the growing demand.

India accounted for 50 percent of the global output of Suzuki Motor Corporation, and was one of the fastest-growing markets in the last financial year. Suzuki’s global output grew by over 2.2 lakh units in FY23, and almost 85 percent of incremental volumes came from India.

Suzuki Motorcycle has a market share of close to 5% in the highly competitive Indian two-wheeler market. The scooters Burgmann and Access accounted for over 90% of its total output in FY23, and the company enjoys a market share of 14%.

The company has informed relevant authorities, and the matter is under investigation, according to the reports.
