Supercomm Asia 2002 to be held in India

BANGALORE: Supercomm Asia 2002,

a large scale event for communications and Information Technology (IT), is to be

held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, from February 20-22, 2002. The announcement

was made by organizers of the event Interads Ltd.

With the theme: 'Experience the Future of Communications and IT - Today', the

three-day extravaganza is poised to showcase the emerging trends in the field

through the companies, which are coming to participate from all over the world.

It is announced that Union Minister for Communications Pramod Mahajan will

unveil the show. "This is the first show on communications and IT on such a

scale that has domestic and multinational corporate participation. An

encouraging support from the leading industry organizations as well as the

Government is extended for the show," says Supercomm Asia 2002’s advisory

committee chairman and a former secretary, Department of Telecommunications,

government of India, PS Saran.

Comprising of exhibition and conferences the space will be adequate for 150

companies that are expected to display their products and services. The market

segments to be covered include broadband, network convergence, Internet

services, mobile communications, besides other IT areas and discussions on

regulatory and consumer issues. "As over 100,000 people including corporate

users, policy-makers, industry players, and end-consumers are expected to visit

the show, it will offer tremendous business opportunities to companies in the

areas of basic/long-distance telephony, cellular mobile communications, global

mobile satellite-based personal communications and equipment

manufacturing," says Interads managing director, Rajan Sharma.

US-based Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), and the

Singapore-based Times Publishing Group are the other organizers of the event.

Co-sponsored by the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of

Communications, Government of India and having trade fair certification by the

US Department of Commerce, the event will have support from Bharat Sanchar Nigam

Ltd. (BSNL) as the diamond sponsor.

The event is also supported by major industry associations including Telecom

Equipment Manufacturers Association of India (TEMA), Association of Basic

Telecom Operators (ABTO), Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI),

Electronic Component Industries Association (ELCINA), The Associated Chambers of

Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), Internet Service Providers

Association of India (ISPAI) and the American Chamber of Commerce in India. More
