PUNE: SunGard, the software and processing solutions company seems to be
confused over whether it would set up a specialized BPO centre here

Mack Gill, president, SunGard Offshore services had earlier said that his
company would set up a BPO facility in Pune.

However, Harsh Barve, CEO, SunGard Offshore Services said, “Talks are on,
but we are not 100 per cent sure about the BPO. Currently we have started night
batch monitoring for application service provider route (ASP), but it's not a
full-fledged thing. But before starting a full-fledged BPO operations, there are
several issues that need to be sorted out. So whether we are starting a BPO or
not would be clear only by Q3, when we will be able to comment on it.”

He further told CyberMedia News, “Apart from foraying into BPO, SunGard
have lots of other expansion plan for India as it is very strategic for SunGard.
Currently we are evaluating other cities apart from Pune and Bangalore, where we
can expand and what kind of services we can provide from those cities. There are
six to seven cities mainly in Maharashtra. Depending upon the location we would
decide upon the kind of service that would be provided from there.”

Currently the Pune off shore center employs 550 people and by the end of 2006
the number is expected to touch 850.
