Sun Tech days begin

HYDERABAD: Young and upcoming developers, quantified in thousands, thronged the Hyderabad International Convention Center to participate in the first day of the Sun Microsystems-organized Sun Tech Days 2007.

Developers taking part on the inaugural day of the three-day event here were served with exhilarating sessions replete with various Java technologies.

B Ramalinga Raju, chief executive officer, Satyam Computers Limited, brought the theme of the event –Shape your future – alive.

The present century presents a thousand trillion opportunity said Raju while delivering the industry keynote.

Speaking about changing times, Raju said, "The knowledge ecosystem is changing. We are dealing with regular transformation. The role of developer is to bring about transformation.’’

"One cannot become a good developer unless one visualizes change,’’ he said.

Raju further said that each developer is a CEO in his own sense. Stressing on distributed leadership he said that leadership is an acquired trend.

"We have to benchmark ourselves with the best,’’ said Raju.

Rich Green, the company’s executive vice president (Software), presented the Sun Microsystem keynote. Green elaborated on the business model adopted by the company.

"Open source is the vehicle by which you grow your volume,’’ said Green.

The opening day as well as the subsequent days would be replete with interactive session on Solaris Operating System, Java Standard Edition, Java Enterprise Edition, Java Micro Edition (ME), NetBeans and Sun Studio among others.

The event will culminate with ancillary events like Java ME Day, OpenSolaris Day and NetBeans Day on February 23.

From Hyderabad, the Sun Tech Days will move on to Kuala Lumpur (March 6-8), London (March 13-15) and Paris (March 19-21).
